Hobbies

My projects and hobbies primarily consist of creating things, wood working, gardening, calligraphy and flying.

Projects

Over the years, I have had an assortment of interests, hobbies and projects.  This page is a focus on the types of interests that I consider to be a different type of interest and hobby than hiking, traveling and exploring.  These are more focused on hands on building and shaping types of projects.  My level of involvement and time commitment for these various areas has changed and migrated over the years; but they are all things I have enjoyed

Woodworking

I did my first furniture refurbishment when I moved out of the dorms and into the condo with my roommates in college.  I redid dresser that used to be my sisters’ from their bedroom.  It was all white and I remember sanding and sanding it before staining it dark.  That is still my dresser to this day.  Later in college I worked in the machine shop at the wind tunnel and learned more about how to use different tools.  This continued in grad school as well with more experience in metal working, wiring, electronics and composites.  In 2009, before moving to El Segundo, I remember really starting my first project to own from design through completion; it was an entertainment center that I still use to this day.  Since moving to El Segundo, I have continued to take on more projects of various sizes for myself and others.  Using tools available in the Fablab at work and also building up my own collection of tools at home.
