For Christmas 2022, I asked my family members if there was anything they wanted that I could make from them as a woodworking project. In response to that request, my mom mentioned wanting to have a box store some cards that she has that have various inspirational quotes and scriptures on them. She gave me a couple of dimensions and then as the design came together, helped pick up a couple of designs that I ended up using. As accents on the box.
The box was made of solid mahogany with blood wood as an accent on the lid and the splines in the corners. I finished the main box construction and sanding in time to give it to her for Christmas of 2022 but the box was not finished. I got the box back in spring of 2023 and after a lot of procrastination, got around to finishing the box. After the box and lid were made, the design were then burned/engraved in with the laser engraver at the Fablab. The box was finished with tung oil and then paste wax and finally delivered as finished in early November of 2023.
